The Coupe due Voyageur Championships is one of the longest standing competitions in Manitoba. Team Dakota had 11 lifters participate. A big thank you to Hercules Weightlifting Club for hosting the competition.

The Dakota Weightlifting Club hosted the Manitoba Provincial Championships on Novmeber 23, 2019. This competition was also enjoyed by Youth, Junior and Senior athletes. This was the "Lift Big Eat Doughnuts" second appearance at Manitoba competitions, and as always, it was enjoyed by the athletes!

The Montreal World Masters Weightlifting Championship concluded on Saturday, August 24, 2019 and the Canadian team performance, including members from the Dakota Weightlifting Club, did not disappoint. The competition, showcasing the world’s best weightlifters aged 35+, welcomed competitors from all continents, including 150 Canadians, at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre. Athletes from 60 countries were competing, a record for a World Masters Championship.

Congratulations to Dakota Team members on their performance at the 2019 Masters Pan Am Championships in Orlando, Florida.
Day one of the competition saw both Doug Sinclair (58/78/136 kg) and Terry Hadlow (95/121/216 kg) sweep gold in their respective classes. Coach Terry also set a new Masters Pan American record with his 95 kg snatch! On day two of the competition, Crystal Stott went 5 for 6 (54/70/124 kg) and finished with a silver medal. Day three was Craig Gilberts turn to bring home the medal and he did not disappoint with a 5 for 6 performance (120/153/273 kg) and a gold medal! On the fourth and final day of the Pan Am championships, David Spurr went 4 for 6 (115/155/270 kg) and finished with a bronze medal in the snatch and a gold medal in both the clean and jerk as well as overall total. |

The Dakota Weightlifting Club and Crossfit Winnipeg hosted the first Manitoba Masters Championships on March 30, 2019. This competition was used a qualifier for the World Master's Weightlifting Championships being held in Montreal, Quebec on August 16-24, 2019. The 2019 Crossfit Winnipeg Open and Manitoba Masters Championships was also enjoyed by Youth, Junior and Senior athletes. The youngest competitor was 9 years old and the oldest Master's competitor was 76 years old.
Aside from the great competition and lifting, the first "Lift Big Eat Donuts" doughnut wall was loved by all and will continue to be a tradition in future competitions hosted by Dakota Weightlifting. Six Members of the Club are lifting in the Howard Cohen American Masters Open in Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend. Best wishes to Coach Terry Hadlow, Crystal Stott, Charlene Mash-Hadlow, Craig Gilbert, Denise Poettcker and Doug Sinclair.
On Day 1 of the competition, Char went 39kg in the snatch and 53kg in the clean & jerk, winning silver and setting a new American record in the snatch. Doug went 59kg in the snatch and 76kg in the clean & jerk, good for gold and American records in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. Coach Terry snatched 85kg and clean & jerked 115kg, good for good, American records in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total, and best male lifter. Day 2 brought more success for the Dakota team! Denise fought hard in a stacked 71kg class, snatching 52kg and clean & jerking 55kg to earn a solid 5th place finish. Crystal snatched 53kg for a new American record and clean & jerked 66kg which won her a silver medal. Day 3 saw Craig snatch 110kg, clean & jerk 143kg and earned himself a silver medal! On October 20, 2018, the Dakota team competed at the annual Manitoba Weightlifting Association, Manitoba Open Competition, host by Crossfit Rocked in Brandon, Manitoba.
Dakota had lifters in both the male sessions (81 kg and 109 kg +) and female sessions (71 kg and 87 kg +) and our junior lifter (9 years old) in the 40 kg class, Full results for the event are can be found here. Photos and videos for the event can be found here. |
On June 15-17, the Canadian Masters Weightlifting Federation hosted the Pan American Weightlifting Championships. Dakota members Terry Haldow, Doug Sinclair and Charlene Mash-Hadlow competed in the event, while taking some extra time to enjoy the sights of Gaspe, Montreal.
Coach Terry Hadlow (M60) earned both Canadian and Pan American records with a 91 kg snatch, 116kg clean and jerk and 207kg total! The legend, Doug Sinclair (M75) ended the competition with a 138 kg Total: 60kg snatch and 78 kg clean and jerk. The crowd was amazing with Doug’s athletic abilities and technique! Congratulations to Charlene Mash - Hadlow (W50) on earning a silver medal with personal best lifts of 40 kg in the snatch and 54 kg in the clean and jerk. On January 28, 2018, the Dakota team competed at the annual Manitoba Weightlifting Association Coupe du Voyageur meet.
Dakota had lifters in both the male and female sessions in a variety of weight classes, including our Junior lifter. Katia Swain (8 years old) in the 48 kg class. This was Katia's first competition and she went 6/6! Results are posted here for Session 1 (Women) and Session 2 (Men). On November 17, 2017, Dakota lifters, Craig Gilbert (105 + kg 40-44 years) and Kristin Macaulay (58kg 30-34 years) represented Manitoba in the the 2017 Canadian Masters Open Championship in Montreal, Canada.
Both athletes won gold in their respective categories. Kristin set new Canadian records in the snatch (56kg), clean & jerk (69kg) and total (125kg). |

On May 13, 2017, four members of the Dakota Weightlifting club participated in the Canadian Masters Weightlifting National Championships.
Charlene Mash Hadlow competed in the W50 69kg class, Doug Sinclair competed in the M75 77kg class, Coach Terry Hadlow competed in the M60 85kg class and Craig Gilbert competed in the M40 >105kg weight class. On April 22, 2017 Crossfit Outland and Dakota Weightlifting hosted the 2017 Outland Barbell Classic in Altona, MB. This was the first of what the Manitoba Weightlifting Association hopes to be an annual competition. Congrats to all the lifters who participated in the event. On March 25, 2017 Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association hosted the 2017 Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships. The Manitoba Weightlifting Association had 15 lifters participate in the competition - 2 from Dakota weightlifting club. Congrats to Chuck Swain and Ian Weins who totaled 222kg and 256kg respectively. Chuck placed 4th overall for the 77kg men's weight class and Ian placed 4th overall for the 85kg men's weight class. On February 12th, the Dakota Weightlifting Team participated at the annual Coup Du Voyageur meet, hosted by Hercules Weightlifting Club.

On November 26, the Dakota Weightlifting Team participated at the 2016 Manitoba Provincial Championships. The event was co-hosted by Lorette Weightlifting Club and Dakota Weightlifting club at the Lorette High school. The competition had all ages of lifters ranging from youth to masters. The youngest lifter was 11 years old and the "wisest" lifter was Dakota's own, Doug Sinclair, 74 years old.
The Dakota Team had a great meet and took home several medals. Christianne Hacault placed first in the 63kg women's weight category, Chuck Swain placed 1st in the 77kg men's session, Ian Weins placed 2nd in the 85kg men's session and best overall junior lifter. On October 15, 2016 the Dakota Weightlifting team along with several other weightlifting gyms from Winnipeg, (Brick Weightlifting, Undefeated Crossfit and Lorette Weightlifting) participated in a training camp hosted by Lorette Weightlifting. It was a great opportunity for lifters to get to know members from other gyms and to experience training techniques from coaches other than their own.

Kristin Macaulay placed 2nd in the 58kg women's weight class and took home the best overall senior lifter award , Charlene Mash- Hadlow and Christianne Hacault placed 4th and 5th in the 69kg weight class, respectively. Chuck Swain placed 2nd in the 77kg men's weight class, Colin Wise and David Taylor both competed for the first time and placed 3rd and 4th in the 77kg men's weight class, respectively. On June 18, 2016 Dakota Weighliftng and ShopGym Inc. hosted the first annual ShopGym Open. This was an unsanctioned meet where lifters were able to gain experience time performing on a platform for the officials while lifting for the fun of it. I competed recently at the 2016 Canadian Masters Nationals, and is a little story describing the experience. The only negative (and this might be something unique to me!) was the night before. As I lay awake staring at a typically bland hotel room ceiling, I couldn’t help but dwell on every possible negative thought. First was the preparation – did I train hard enough, or maybe too hard? What about my diet or recovery, where did I screw that up? What could I have done better? What was I going to eat tomorrow, and would it support performance? These thoughts and more continually cycled through my brain as I absently mindedly channel surfed for a few hours. On February 20, 2016, Dakota Weightlifting and Starke Crossfit participated in the "February Dust Off". The "February Dust Off" was a co-hosted club competition where local athletes met to compete for the love of lifting.
